(1875) Silver Clasped Christian Missal with Color Illustrations
We are offering here an uniquelly bound French Christian "Roman Parishioner" book from 1875. Bound in a brown leather binding with two Damascus silver clasps and with Damascus silver cross to the front board. Front and rear paste-down accompanied by red Moirée silk. Free endpapers also accompanied by red Moirée silk. A numbered copy (N°52).
With color frontispiece and 3 color engraved plates illustrated by famous French illustrator and engraver J. Chevron (who collaborated on the creation of numerous engravings, frontispieces and initial letters for luxury editions of Roman Parishioners and Catholic missals in the 19th century).

All page edges gilt; Size of the book: 11,8 x 8,6 cm (4.65" x 3.4"); Text in French; Collation complete - False title, Color frontispiece, Title page, 576 pages, with 3 color engraved plates; Full leather binding is tight and firm, overall in very good condition, with minor bumping, some surface scuffings and discoloration, corners bumped. Silver clasps fully functional and well preserved, withs ome patina only. Joints and hinges whole, strong and secure, only the cloth of front inner joint with a short tear to the top. Pages/Text block in very good condition, very bright and clear, with some yellowing, otherwise no foxing, markings or annotations. Overall the condition of the book is VERY GOOD.
